Amidst rising air pollution, AQI, here’s how you can take care of your eyes

Mike SternNovember 3, 2022

The level of air pollution is highest in Delhi and its surrounding areas and according to experts, the air we breathe is full of poisonous gases and dangerous particles. according to some studies air pollutionDr Rishi Raj Bora, Country Director-India, Orbis said, the air quality of the National Capital Region is “as terrible as smoking 40 cigarettes a day”. “The most frequent causes of increased air pollution include agricultural waste (known as stubble burning), exhaust from moving cars and hazardous chemicals from industrial waste. The recent years have witnessed several health emergencies called by the Delhi government as high numbers of pollutants pose a greater risk to public health,” he said.

When air pollution levels are severe, a thick layer of air called ‘smog’ develops close to the ground. “It damages and triggers eye allergies. Air that is of poor quality (falling in the ‘unhealthy’ to ‘very unhealthy’ to ‘hazardous’ categories in the Air Quality Index (AQI)) contains carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and contains harmful gases such as coarse dust mites, which cause increased complaints of being red, watery eyesas well as other eye allergies,” he added. indianexpress.com,
