Every year on October is celebrated as breast cancer awareness mass With the aim of raising awareness about this disease and its prevention. Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide and in India. “To reduce mortality and morbidity from breast cancer, early detection is important. Women in their 20s are advised to have their breasts checked regularly after menstruation. Women in their 30s also undergo a clinical breast exam every six months to a year.Indian women in their 40s are advised to undergo diagnostic breast examination As well as a regular mammogram (an X-ray test),” said Dr Aruna Muralidhar MD, MRCOG (UK), FRCOG (UK), FICM, senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, Fortis Hospital, Richmond Road Bangalore .
The most common and well-known symptom is a lump in the breast. But, most breast lumps are not cancerous. Dr Muralidhar explained that cancerous lumps are usually hard, not easily moveable and are usually painless.
