Can you change your body odor?

Mike SternOctober 16, 2022

Body odor is one of the most human things and yet, one of the biggest turn-offs. We talked to experts about what causes it and what, ultimately, if we can take control of it.

According to dermatologist and cosmetologist Dr Sharifa Isa Chaus, body odor is mostly due to bacteria present on the skin and not sweat. She says you can reduce your body odor by taking care of the basics: washing the sweaty area with soap, using an antiperspirant containing aluminum chloride, and shaving body hair regularly. She adds that body hair traps bacteria, which can increase the likelihood of excess body odor.

But after all, can we change our smell?

“You can reduce the effects of your body odor in a few ways. Avoid eating garlic and ginger as these odors are transmitted through sweat. Coffee and alcohol should also be avoided as they cause more sweating. Citrus such as oranges A healthy diet with fruits can also help, ”says the expert.

Dr. Sayali Dhake, Endocrinologist, SRV Mamta Hospital says, “Body odor can be caused by many things, such as a drop in estrogen during menstruation, puberty or pregnancy. Hot flashes and night sweats during menopause can also cause body odor. Trying to take the best possible care of yourself during this time is the key to controlling body odor.”

Thus, while you cannot completely and completely change your smell, you can control it to an extent and change it a little by taking precautions.

According to Harvard Health Publishing, you can “wear clothing made of breathable fabrics such as cotton, silk, or wool and wash after each wear. For exercise, you may prefer to wear moisture-wicking fabrics such as polyester or nylon.” can.”
