Contrary to popular belief, rice and bananas should not be avoided in the weight loss journey.

As the centuries-old understanding goes, certain foods have come to develop a reputation that pushes them under the big No. No List when it comes to weight loss. But nature has given reasons why each of them holds a significant value in our food platter. So it seems advisable to consciously include them in your diet plan rather than giving up completely.

When trying to lose a few kilosPeople are wary of many other foods like rice, bananas, gluten, dairy products and mangoes. But certified dietitian Kiran Kukreja says something else. Busting the food myths associated with these five items, she lists their health benefits and explains how they can actually aid in your weight loss journey. to keep track!

rice

Rice is a rich source of carbohydrates which play an important role in providing energy to the body. With that in mind, she suggests switching up the way we eat rice: “Rice is low in fiber so we can eat it easily. You can add a lot of vegetables to the rice to increase the fiber content and lower the glycemic index of the recipe. Thus, instead of eliminating rice completely you only need to change the way you eat it,” she writes.

gluten

Gluten is a generic name for a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, etc. The most common foods containing gluten in Indian households are Roti / Chapati. On that note, Kukreja says, “There is no scientific evidence that gluten-containing foods cause more weight gain than other foods. So don’t cut chapatis out of your diet to lose weight.”

milk products

Rich in calcium, dairy products “may promote weight loss by increasing the breakdown of fat in fat cells,” as noted by a dietitian. She also suggests avoiding “packaged/factory refined dairy.”

banana

Running late for work? Bananas are very useful and make you feel full. So it’s safe to say that turning to bananas for a quick snack has been around for a long time and according to Kukreja, they also help you stay in shape.

“Bananas are actually good for weight loss as they contain a good amount of fiber which slows down digestion. Research has found that increasing fiber intake can reduce the risk of weight gain by up to 30% Eat one banana a day as part of a healthy diet for weight loss,” she advises.

Common

Suggesting a controlled intake of mangoes, she notes, “Phytochemicals present in mangoes have been proven to suppress fat-producing cells. Mango is also high in calories, but it is also high in dietary fiber and water, which promote digestive health. Thus, keep mangoes under partial control.”
