Experts share ‘healing foods’ that may help improve thyroid function

As such, Ayurveda expert, Dr. Diksa Bhavsar Savaliya took to Instagram to share three healing foods that, according to her, work wonders for thyroid gland and helps in improving its functioning.

“These 3 superfoods work wonders for your thyroid health and help correct all types of thyroid imbalances—hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, goiter, and autoimmune diseases (Hashimoto and Graves’ disease),” Dixha wrote.

Brazil nuts

Eating just 2-3 Brazil nuts in a day can help us maintain and even increase selenium level in the body. Selenium is essential for the health of thyroid function. “Eating Brazil nuts can help prevent all kinds of thyroid diseases, especially auto-immune diseases—Hashimoto and Graves’ disease—and prevents the risk of thyroid cancer,” she said.

In addition to improved thyroid functions, Brazil nuts improve sleep, sexual potency, brain and heart health. In addition, it helps reduce hair loss, inflammation, blood sugar, high cholesterol and LDL levels. According to Dr Dixa, it is best to consume 2-3 dry roasted Brazil nuts on an empty stomach in the morning.

Pista

Pistachios are a rich source of fiber, minerals, and unsaturated fats that can help keep you healthy. blood sugar And keeping cholesterol under control is what most thyroid patients struggle with. Roasted and salted pistachios are very good for low blood pressure whereas only roasted is good for reducing high blood pressure. Their fiber and protein content can keep you feeling full for longer, so you can stay away from snacking without thinking.

“It’s wonderful to manage thyroid symptoms like ConstipationEmotional hunger, mood swings, insomnia, dryness and stress,” Dr Dixha said.

According to experts, you can eat a handful of pistachios in the evening snack or at any time of the day when you feel like eating something.

Agreed Dr. Archana Sukumaran, Ayurveda Physician (BAMS) at Kerala Ayurveda, who said, “Pistachios and Brazil nuts are high in selenium, a mineral essential for maintaining thyroid functioning. They are also rich in iron which enhances thyroid health. .

Dates

The Ayurvedic expert said that dates are best for thyroid as they are rich in iodine and iron and help in the production of thyroid hormones- T3 and T4. “Dates are best for managing fatigue, hair fall, anemia, excessive bleeding, sugar craving, headache, constipation, poor libido, joint pain.Arthritisetc., which thyroid patients usually suffer from,” said Dr Dixha.

Dr Archana said, “Dates are rich in iodine, which is important for the production of two thyroid hormones, T3 and T4.

Dr Dixha suggests consuming 3-4 nights soaked dates on an empty stomach either in the morning or as an evening snack.
