Mental health NGO wins UK government grant to develop model for autism care

Sangat, a non-governmental organization based in Goa and New Delhi, received a grant in partnership with the University of Manchester, UK to design and evaluate a detection care model for young children with autism and their families in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. has done. It aims to evaluate a flexible route that will support detection and intervention services for families of young children with autism through a program of research, training and capacity building in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal using health workers.

This grant is provided by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) using UK assistance from the UK Government, which supports global health research.

Dr. Gauri Dewan, co-principal investigator of Sangat, said, “This is the result of more than 10 years of systematic research into community care for autism that we are doing at Sangat. We know that families continue to struggle to receive a diagnosis. and then get proven affordable care. We look forward to using our experience of working with ASHA workers in Delhi providing pass plus interventions to families’ homes. This experience has given us confidence. That we can implement it in the districts of South Asia…”
