Poetry and meditation may help researchers see the world through new eyes

Mike SternJanuary 20, 2023

The study authors point out that meditation allows researchers to train their bodies for data collection – improving their ability to capture unexpected insights and deal with uncertainty and change as they incorporate novel interpretations into their research. Huh.

The skill enables researchers to understand novel cultural practices. Poetic meditation can prepare researchers to see the world through different eyes.

publish their findings in Marketing Management JournalResearchers from the University of Birmingham and Cage Business School, Bordeaux, France, have outlined a revolutionary new process to help researchers scale their work.

Pilar Rojas-Gaviria of the University of Birmingham, UK, commented: “Scientific wonder prompts us to ask questions about the purpose of consumption, the ways in which markets are created and expanded, and how both are linked to life and human experience “

“Academics have always developed theses to address questions and explain phenomena, but mindfulness practice can make our bodies an instrument of research—collecting data from a variety of environmental sources. Poetry allows qualitative researchers to rediscover their surroundings.” provide a useful tool for defining data and shedding new light on the data. They work together.”

power of poetic meditation

Poetic attention allows researchers to reveal unexpected or previously unknown features of the market and consumption environment, rather than simply reproducing existing categories and theories.

By recording and presenting poetic meditations through audio media, researchers demonstrate the potential of poetry to stimulate new ideas that may influence how academics approach data collection or analysis.

Researchers demonstrate the technique with two poetic meditations focusing on the colors green and red. These audio presentations settle the listener into a relaxed state, before taking the listener on an intellectual journey into poetry and philosophy and ending with a period of meditation.

Robin Canniford from Cage Business School commented: “We believe this technology could inspire researchers to incorporate sound recordings and data presentations into their publications – creating a different approach to communicating and understanding their findings.” Can do.”

“Creating a poetic meditation can be the first step in a researcher’s journey that uncovers new sensibilities, interpretations, and questions—leading to unconventional and influential responses to our research, even when the answers seem far in the future.”

Poetry in marketing has already proven to be an effective research method for challenging conventional thinking in areas such as branding. It has helped marketers understand markets and consumers – by engaging in dialogue to discover how people consume products and services.
