Mike SternMarch 27, 2023

Some students become overly stressed and some are able to cope well, stay healthy and do well in their academics and careers. So what is it that really helps a student reach that potential?

sleep before the exam

One of the most important factors is sleep. Most of us do not consider sleep as a part of our health. In fact, it comes down on the list of priorities. Most students take pride in not sleeping during exams and burning the midnight oil.

A large part of this is created by a false belief system which states that the student should revise the portion of the exam on the previous day or may be the student is not prepared and is trying to keep up with last minute preparation .

Whatever may be the reason, a A good night’s sleep is necessary not only a day before the exam but also 1 month before the exam.

Why is sleep important?

Good Sleep for a Healthy Body:

Sleep duration depends on the age of the person, with younger children needing more sleep, but on average a eight to nine hours of good sleep Required for optimal functioning of the body

Proper Hormone Function:

Good sleep stabilizes hormones like blood sugar level, insulin level, cholesterol, leptin, ghrelin and cortisol level of the body. These Hormones are necessary for proper functioning of body

Increases Weight:

Lack of sleep suppresses leptin or the satiety hormone and activates ghrelin (the hunger hormone). As a result, the person develops excessive hunger and cravings Eating more sweet and salty food leads to weight gain.

Risk of Diabetes:

When blood sugar levels are not maintained and insulin levels rise, its incidence increases developing prediabetes or diabetes at a young age, Many of which may be missed.

Impaired sleep, impaired immunity:

lack of sleep increases cortisol levels which causes frequent infections due to inflammation in the body And immunity decreases. Taking exams while ill reduces performance and needs to be avoided

Poor sleep, poor memory:

Elevated levels of cortisol also interfere with cognition and memory, leading to poor recall, confusion, and amnesia. it all makes up worry, anxiety and stress To create a situation of fear in the mind of the student.

Therefore, sleep is a very important component of health. Good sleep is the time when the cellular regeneration of the body takes place and helps all the organs and systems of the body to function in the same and best possible way.

It creates a healthy body with a safe mental environment which is vital for growth, development and to face all the challenges of life including exams.
