What’s the 10-minute rule you should follow when cooking with garlic?

Mike SternOctober 6, 2022

garlic Used in most Indian kitchens to add a distinct flavor to dishes. The simple ingredients not only make the food taste better but are also loaded with several health benefits that help strengthen the body’s immunity and keep many diseases at bay. Dr Moomal Asif wrote on Instagram, “The benefits of garlic are ‘legendary’ due to its potent antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory properties and high in antioxidants.

Dr Garima Goel, a dietitian agreed, and told indianexpress.com, “Garlic contains a compound called allicin, which makes it a drug in disguise.” He added that it “has excellent disease-preventive effects against cancer, heart disease and diabetes, and also promotes health through its antioxidant activities.”

Nutritionist Lavneet Batra also shared in an Instagram post that Garlic is “a miracle food” that “helps to boost the immune system and thus protects our body from various infections” – all due to the presence of allicin. According to experts, this is also aAnti-fungal and antiseptic in nature, and “may help prevent certain cognitive diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.”

However, experts warn that the fry garlic – which should ideally be consumed on an empty stomach – Even for “two minutes in a frying pan destroys all of its health benefits.”

Dr Goyal explained that on cooking, the allicin compound of garlic is destroyed along with other water-soluble vitamins like B and C as all of them are sensitive to heat.

What can be done?

to maintain the health benefits of garlic, Asif suggests making one small change: “Crush, chop or chop the garlic and keep it off the heat for 10 minutes.”

“During this time maximum allicin is created and (if left untouched for 10 minutes) remains intact during cooking,” she said, adding that after 10 minutes anyone “fry, fry, to their heart’s content.” can bake it and still get all its medicine.” ,

In addition, Dr. Goel said it’s because those 10 minutes “retain the allicin,” which “can be added to your dishes and enjoyed with a slew of health benefits.”

So, enjoy the myriad benefits of garlic with this super easy regimen!
